My valuable aspect from this past week was with my Business Law students. This is the most recent class I have taken responsibility for and it took me some time to get comfortable actually teaching the students. I have interacted with them all semester, but it is different now that I'm their teacher. Unlike my Money and Banking class where I am familiar with a lot of the content already, I am learning the law content just a few days before the students. My comfort level with them increased this week which abled me to get the content across to them better than the week before. We also had a great review on Thursday for Friday's exam that seemed to reinforce some of the content that was the cause of confusion for the students. The chapter was on contractual capacity and to review, I was the host of the 'Contractual Capacity Olympics.' I split the class into teams and we played three mini games and the team at the end of class who had the most number of wins received extra credit on their exam.
If I could change anything from the week, it would have been to get more work done for our final assessment earlier in the week. I did a few small things, but not as much as I would have liked to get done. I feel overwhelmed which is probably how many of you feel, but I keep trying to remind myself that we're almost done and to stick it out for just a few more days. We're so close!

That sounds like fun... I want to play Contractual Capacity Olympics! LOL... it sounds like a great learning and review tool. Is this something you made up or something you found on line? Either way, it does sound like a great way to get the students involved. A little friendly competition can really get the kids attention!
ReplyDeleteI with you... I keep reminding myself that there's only a few days left... 7 but who's counting? =)
I agree that Contractual Capacity Olympics review sounds like fun and it seems like you and the students enjoyed it! I have found that sometimes little fumbles on our part can be made up for quickly when we plan fun and interesting lessons that the students are interested in. I believe we all our counting down the days until we are finished. We have all put so much work into this semester it will be so nice to be finished and get some time to truly look back at our experience.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
Wow that game sounds pretty fun! Im sure the students enjoyed having a different type of activity in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when it comes to having to teach yourself new material. It is so much different than when we were learning material in the past. Then we learned the material to do well on a test, now we have to learn it to teach it!
The end is in sight! Have a great week!
That game sounds like a lot of fun, I’m sure the students enjoyed it. I also agree with you to get more things done earlier for the final, there is a lot we have due and I am also feeling overwhelmed with everything. Just keep your head up and keep working hard. 10 days left, GOOD LUCK!
ReplyDeleteTeaching busniness law is very hard to get used to. That was my first class that I started to teach and I feel that sometimes it is very hard to find ways to make the content interesting and fun for the students. That is great that you did a review game like that before the test. I think we are all overwhelmed but it is almost over.
ReplyDeleteGames are great, especially when the games are learning games and the students do not even know they are learning. I had my students play games in Excel a couple of weeks ago and they are still asking if they could play again. See you on Monday night.
ReplyDeleteI had the pleasure observe Casi during this lesson and it was EXCELLENT! The students loved the review and she used three different games so the students did not get bored with just one game.
ReplyDeleteCasi...you win the "Most Commented Blog Posting" of the semester! Six comments! Great!
